Bucharest, Aug 30 /Agerpres / - The long history of the bilateral cooperation relationships between Romania and Jordan, with the 52nd anniversary of their bilateral diplomatic ties to be celebrated this year, and the solid friendship between the two countries was highlighted on Wednesday by the chairman of the Romanian Senate's Foreign Policy Committee Cristian Dumitrescu during a meeting with visiting Jordan's Minister for Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Habes Maaytah.

'The Romanian senator voiced interest in further strengthening the political and diplomatic dialogue between Romania and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and also in intensifying trade and harnessing the educational potential of the relationship between the two counties. He also mentioned an opportunity for Romania to offer Jordan support and assistance in the process of modernisation, by sharing the Romanian experience with strengthening institutional capabilities, inclusive and equal policies, the management and organisation of elections, etc.' the Senate reported in a press statement on Wednesday.

The Jordanian official highlighted, in his turn, the traditional relations between the two countries and recommended new levels on which political, diplomatic and economic discussions could be intensified.

The discussions also focused on ways in which cooperation could be improved and diversified in other areas of common interest such as agriculture, tourism, energy, IT, and the visa policy for Romanian and Jordanian citizens.

The meeting also addressed items on the world agenda such as the Middle East crisis and the fight against terrorism.

Also attending the meeting were Minister for the Relation with Parliament Viorel Ilie; Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies' Foreign Policy Committee Ben-Oni Ardelean; Chairman of the Friendship Parliamentary Group with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Verestoy Attila, as well as Senators Mihnea Costoiu and Radu-Mihai Mihail, both members on the Senate's Foreign Policy Committee.
